Radiation dose distribution in functional heart regions from tangential breast cancer radiotherapy

2015

Abstract Background and purpose To analyze the distribution of individually-determined radiation dose to the heart and its functional sub-structures after radiotherapy in breast cancer patients treated in Germany during 1998–2008. Material and methods We obtained electronic treatment planning records for 769 female breast cancer patients treated with megavoltage tangential field radiotherapy. All dose distributions were re-calculated using Eclipse with the anisotropic analytical algorithm (AAA) for photon fields, and the electron Monte Carlo algorithm for electron boost fields. Based on individual dose volume histograms for the complete heart and several functional sub-structures, we estima…

P1475Impact of automatic screening and parasternal rights positions in the eligibility of patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy for subcutaneous …

2020

Abstract Background A high percentage of failures in the detection of QRS and T wave in patients (pts) with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) have been reported. This finding would prevent them from being eligible for an implantable subcutaneous automatic defibrillator (S-ICD). However, recently 2 changes in the detection have been proposed, automatic screening and the use of right parasternal position of the lead.  The aim of our work was to study if the elegibility proportion of patients  was increased with both 2 advacements. Methods We included 31 patients (18 male)with a diagnosis of HCM and at least 1 risk factor for sudden death, in follow-up at the outdoor clinic of of 2 cardiology …

Noninvasive assessment of respiratory muscle strength and activity in Myotonic dystrophy

2017

Objective To evaluate sensitivity/specificity of the maximum relaxation rate (MRR) of inspiratory muscles, amplitude of electromyographic activity of the sternocleidomastoid (SCM), scalene (SCA), parasternal (2ndIS) and rectus abdominis (RA) muscles; lung function and respiratory muscle strength in subjects with Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) compared with healthy subjects. Design and methods Quasi-experimental observational study with control group. MRR of inspiratory muscles, lung function and amplitude of the electromyographic activity of SCM, SCA, 2ndIS and RA muscles during maximum inspiratory pressure (PImax), maximum expiratory pressure (PEmax) and sniff nasal inspiratory pressure (…

Interplay of cardiac remodelling and myocardial stiffness in hypertensive heart disease: a shear wave imaging study using high-frame rate echocardiog…

2019

Abstract Aims To determine myocardial stiffness by means of measuring the velocity of naturally occurring myocardial shear waves (SWs) at mitral valve closure (MVC) and investigate their changes with myocardial remodelling in patients with hypertensive heart disease. Methods and results Thirty-three treated arterial hypertension (HT) patients with hypertrophic left ventricular (LV) remodelling (59 ± 14 years, 55% male) and 26 aged matched healthy controls (55±15 years, 77% male) were included. HT patients were further divided into a concentric remodelling (HT1) group (13 patients) and a concentric hypertrophy (HT2) group (20 patients). LV parasternal long-axis views were acquired with an ex…
